Main Grades & Composition Characteristics:

Popular grades on the market include 6061, 6063, 6061-T6, 6063-T5, 6082 and 6005. Differences in alloy composition lead to varied performance and application ranges. The key composition and features of each grade are listed below:

Grade

Main Alloy Content

Core Characteristics

6061

Mg: 0.8-1.2%, Si: 0.4-0.8%, Cu: 0.15-0.4%, Cr: 0.04-0.35%

Medium-high strength, excellent machinability, good weldability and superior corrosion resistance. It is the most versatile and widely used grade in 6xxx series.

6063

Mg: 0.45-0.9%, Si: 0.2-0.6%, Cu ≤ 0.1%

Moderate strength and excellent ductility. Outstanding surface finishing performance with high luster after anodizing, ideal for architectural decoration.

6082

Mg: 0.6-1.2%, Si: 0.7-1.3%, Mn: 0.4-1.0%

Higher strength than standard 6061 and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Mainly used for structural components and transportation equipment.

6005

Mg: 0.4-0.6%, Si: 0.6-0.9%

Superior extrusion performance, relatively high strength and stable weldability. Suitable for large extruded parts and lightweight structures.

Overall, magnesium and silicon are the primary alloying elements of 6xxx series. The formed Mg₂Si phase contributes largely to the material strength. By adjusting the ratio of magnesium to silicon and adding trace elements such as copper, manganese and chromium, we can balance strength, ductility and corrosion resistance to satisfy diverse application demands.

Product Performance Features:

Stable Mechanical Properties

The mechanical properties of 6xxx series aluminum coils can be adjusted via heat treatment including quenching and aging. Different tempers fit varied load-bearing requirements:

O temper (annealed): Excellent ductility for deep drawing, bending and other heavy deformation processes.

T4 temper (natural aging): Balanced strength and ductility with high dimensional stability after forming.

T5 / T6 temper (artificial aging): High strength to meet the load requirements of structural parts.

The tensile strength ranges from 120 MPa to 350 MPa, covering a wide range of working conditions.

Excellent Corrosion & Weather Resistance

A dense protective aluminum oxide film naturally forms on the surface of 6xxx alloys. They deliver good corrosion resistance in atmospheric, fresh water, weak acid and weak alkali environments, and are highly resistant to pitting and intergranular corrosion. No obvious corrosion or cracking occurs after long-term outdoor service, making them ideal for coastal buildings and outdoor projects.

Compared with 2xxx and 7xxx series alloys, 6xxx series has stronger resistance to stress corrosion and rarely suffers corrosion fracture under long-term stress.

Superior Machinability & Surface Finishing Performance

With good ductility and cold working capacity, 6xxx coils can be easily bent, stamped, stretched and spun with low cracking rate and high yield. They also possess reliable weldability and work well with TIG welding, resistance welding and other common techniques, producing weld joints with stable strength.

In addition, the material is highly adaptable to anodizing, electrophoretic coating, PVDF spraying and powder coating. The finished surface features uniform luster and strong adhesion for premium decorative effects.

Eco-friendly & Recyclable

Aluminum alloy is 100% recyclable green metal. No toxic substances are added during production, fully complying with EU RoHS standards. Discarded products can be completely recycled and reused without environmental pollution, which conforms to the trends of green manufacturing and carbon neutrality.
